  • In 2007, 1,027 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in Virginia, an increase of about 7 percent from the previous year.
  • According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS), these truck and bus crash statistics were reported for VA in 2007:
    • 4,587 large trucks and 607 buses were involved in non-fatal crashes.
    • 1,988 large trucks and 320 buses were involved in injury crashes.
    • 2,907 injuries were reported in crashes involving large trucks and 696 injuries were reported in crashes involving buses.
    • 2,599 large trucks and 287 buses were involved in towaway crashes.
    • 38 large trucks involved in crashes were displaying hazardous material placards.
  • In 2007, there were 44 people killed in motor vehicle accidents in Washington, D.C., an increase of 19 percent from the previous year.
