First opened in 1943, Suburban Hospital is a non-profit, community-based hospital serving the residents of Montgomery County. As the designated trauma center in Montgomery County – one of only nine in the state of Maryland – Suburban Hospital offers a wide range of emergency, inpatient and outpatient services.
Since 2009, Suburban Hospital has been a member of Johns Hopkinis Medicine. This official partnership builds on a long-term relationship between the two organizations, especially in the areas of stroke and cardiac care. Suburban Hospital has also partnered in a number of initiatives with the National Institute of Health. The NIH Stroke Center, for example, combines the MRI Center and a 24/7 hospital-based stroke team, which means that any stroke victim will see a neurologist immediately on admittance.
In 1999, Suburban became one of the first community hospitals to use MRI technology in diagnosing heart attacks, coronary disease and stroke in emergency room patients. In the spring of 2006, Suburban opened the NIH Heart Center, which brings the clinical expertise of National Institute of Health and Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers to a community-based cardiac program. The hospital’s cardiac surgery and angioplasty offer patients easy access to the latest, most advanced, cardiovascular therapies.
Other areas of expertise include a Diabetes Education Program and a Center for Sleep Disorders, as well as Addiction Treatment, Behavioral Health, Cancer Care, Clinical Trials, Electroconvulsive Therapy, ElderWell, Emergency Care, Endoscopy Center, HeartWell, Human Motion Institute, Infusion Center, Integrative Medicine, Intensive Care, LifeLine Medical Alarms, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Outpatient Mental Health, Outpatient Surgery Center, Pain Management Services, Palliative Care, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiation Therapy, Radiology, Robotic Surgery, Senior Services, Stroke Center, Surgical Services, Urogynecology Services, and Women’s Health Services.
More than 14,000 patients are admitted to the 239-bed hospital each year; the average length of stay per patient is 4.22 days. Outpatient visits number more than 92,000 and emergency room visits are about 43,000. The hospital is fully staffed with 900 members on the medical staff, and more than 450 nurses.
Suburban Hospital is one of several hospitals in the Washington DC area. For your convenience, the Abelson Law Offices Website has a directory of other Washington DC health care facilities.
